Composing & Arranging

Lucas Brum has written original compositions and arrangements for NDR Big Band, and has arranged extensively across a wide range of settings: big bands and large ensembles of varying instrumentation, string quartets, string quartet with a jazz rhythm section, piano arrangements, piano four hands, cello and piano, horns with a blues band, pops orchestra arrangements, and orchestral reductions.

Every commission is written specifically for the ensemble and the occasion, matching instrumentation, level and character to what the moment calls for. Whether the project calls for a full big band chart, a chamber arrangement for strings, or a reduction for a smaller lineup, the aim is always a score that serves the musicians and the music equally well.

Tell me about the ensemble, the occasion and the deadline.
